形態：群体はテーブル状。水平枝が互いに融合して板状になる。水平枝から垂直に短い枝が密に分岐する。垂直枝は太く、放射サンゴ個体はあまり開かず管状に近い。垂直枝の先端付近で複数の中軸サンゴ個体が分岐することが多い。
識別点：Acropora microclados マツバミドリイシとの区別に迷うことがあるが、本種は垂直枝が太く長いこと、放射サンゴ個体の先端があまり伸びないことで識別する。
分布と生態：外洋に面した礁斜面に見られる。沖縄周辺での産卵期が盛夏 (7～9月) である。
備考：従来、形態的特徴から HYACINTHUS GROUP に含まれているが、今後、分子系統解析によって、他のグループに移る可能性も含めて、詳細な検討が必要と思われる。
